Rivers Police Clamp Down on Covered Number Plates, Unregistered Vehicles
The Rivers State Police Command has announced a tougher enforcement campaign against motorists using covered number plates and unregistered vehicles across the state.
In a statement released by police spokesperson Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, authorities warned that anyone driving vehicles with hidden, altered, or missing plate numbers will face arrest and prosecution.
The command said the operation is part of efforts to tackle rising cases of “one-chance” robberies, kidnappings, and other violent crimes linked to criminal transport operators.
Police also confirmed that restrictions on tricycle operations at night remain active, while commercial keke-buses with tinted glass or coverings hiding passengers’ identities will be banned from May 18, 2026.
Residents were advised to stay alert, avoid isolated pickup points, and always share vehicle details with trusted contacts before boarding public transport.
