Kwankwaso Blames ‘Enemies’ Over US Congress Sanctions Proposal
Former NNPP presidential candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso has dismissed moves by US lawmakers to sanction him over alleged religious freedom violations, describing it as a plot by political enemies in Nigeria.
Speaking on Arise TV, the former Kano governor said his name was unfairly submitted to the US Congress over the implementation of Sharia law in Kano State. Kwankwaso explained that due process was followed at the time and insisted he should not be blamed years later for the law’s introduction.
The proposed US bill seeks stronger action against human rights abuses and includes possible sanctions against Fulani militias and some Nigerian figures.
