The attack, which occurred on Sunday, was reportedly in retaliation for the killing of a militant leader, Maigemu, by security forces.
Terrorists Set Homes Ablaze, Forcing Mass Displacement
Eyewitness accounts reveal that Birnin Dede and nearby communities were stormed by heavily armed assailants, who burned houses and forced hundreds of residents to flee. Only one village was spared due to the presence of military personnel stationed in the area.
Confirming the incident on Monday, Kebbi State Police spokesperson, Nafiu Abubakar, stated:
“They targeted six villages, killing 11 people and leaving two others in critical condition. We are on their trail, and God willing, we will apprehend them soon.”
Victims Laid to Rest as Security Forces Intensify Operations
Chairman of Arewa Local Government Council, Alhaji Sani Aliyu, confirmed that the deceased victims had been buried in accordance with Islamic rites. He also acknowledged that the attack was a reprisal for the recent security operation that led to the elimination of Maigemu, a notorious bandit leader.
In response, security forces have intensified efforts to track down the assailants and restore stability in the affected communities.
