“We’ll Use This Venue by Force” — Dino Melaye Blasts AC Failure at African Democratic Congress Convention

Tension and discomfort marked the national convention of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Abuja as faulty air conditioning systems left delegates battling intense heat at the Rainbow Event Centre.
The party had earlier relocated the event to the venue after it was denied access to both Eagle Square and Moshood Abiola National Stadium, originally proposed locations for the gathering.
Amid the unfolding situation, Bolaji Abdullahi alleged that the event centre management was under pressure to cancel the party’s booking, further complicating arrangements for the convention.
Addressing delegates on Tuesday, Dino Melaye expressed frustration over the conditions but insisted the convention would proceed regardless of the obstacles.
“We are using this place by force,” Melaye declared, lamenting that despite fulfilling contractual obligations, access to basic facilities like the central air conditioning remained restricted.
He added that efforts were ongoing to restore the cooling system, while alternative measures, including bringing in fans, were being arranged to ease the discomfort.
“Even if it is in a motor park, the convention will hold today. They don’t want it to hold, but by the grace of God, it will hold,” he said.
Despite the logistical setbacks and political tension surrounding the venue, party members remained determined to carry on with the convention as scheduled.
