The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has arrested 33 suspects linked to the violent attack on Christ Apostolic Church in Kwara State, where several worshippers were killed and dozens abducted.
Anthony Placid, the force’s public relations officer, disclosed in a statement on Tuesday that the suspects are among a larger network of 50 individuals connected to terrorism, kidnapping, and armed robbery across the country.
According to him, the arrests were made following a sustained and strategic offensive launched by the police since January, targeting criminal syndicates that have posed serious threats to national security.
Placid noted that key suspects are already set to face prosecution in court, while security operatives continue to track down other accomplices and recover illegal weapons used in the operations.
The arrests are tied to the November 18 attack on the church in Eruku, when armed men stormed a service, killing three worshippers and abducting 38 others. A video from the incident, captured during a live broadcast, showed congregants in worship before gunshots suddenly rang out around the premises, causing panic.
Days after the attack, Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced that all abducted worshippers had been successfully rescued.
Security authorities say investigations remain ongoing as efforts intensify to dismantle the entire criminal network behind the attack.
