Kidnappings Surge in Northern Nigeria as Amnesty International Reports 1,100 Abductions in 3 Months
Amnesty International has raised serious concerns over a growing wave of kidnappings across northern Nigeria, revealing that no fewer than 1,100 people were abducted within a three-month period.
In a statement shared via its official X platform on Monday, the global rights group said the incidents, recorded between January and April 2026, largely targeted vulnerable rural communities and Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps.
The organisation urged Bola Tinubu and his administration to take swift and decisive action to curb the escalating insecurity.
According to Amnesty International, the alarming trend highlights the urgent need for stronger protection measures, stressing that communities and displaced persons in the northern region remain highly exposed to repeated attacks.
