2027 Elections: Nigerians Rally at UK Parliament, Demand Sack of INEC Boss Over Credibility Concerns
Nigerians living in the United Kingdom have taken their protest to the UK Parliament, calling for the removal of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, as pressure mounts for credible and transparent elections ahead of 2027.
The demonstrators, largely from the Nigerian diaspora community, expressed deep concerns over the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process, insisting that urgent reforms are needed to safeguard the country’s democracy.
Speaking during the protest, one of the participants stressed the urgency of the moment, noting that the future of Nigeria’s democracy depends on immediate action.
“If we truly want to protect our democracy, the time to act is now. We deserve a better nation, and it begins with demanding accountability, starting with the resignation of the INEC chairman,” the protester said.
He further emphasized that the movement is driven by the desire for free, fair, and credible elections, adding that Nigerians cannot afford to allow the electoral system to be compromised.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), particularly youth groups, are mobilising for coordinated protests within Nigeria.
Planned demonstrations are expected to take place at INEC offices in Lagos, Ogun, and Jigawa States, where participants will also demand the removal of the electoral body’s chairman and call for sweeping reforms to ensure electoral transparency.
The growing wave of protests both at home and abroad signals increasing public demand for accountability and a credible electoral process ahead of the 2027 general election
