Court Adjourns Bail Hearing, Nasir El-Rufai to Stay in Detention Until June

A Kaduna State High Court, presided over by Darius Khobo, has postponed the bail application of former governor Nasir El-Rufai to the first week of June 2026, meaning he will remain in custody pending the court’s decision.
El-Rufai is facing prosecution by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over multiple allegations linked to financial misconduct and abuse of office during his tenure.
Reacting after the court session, his lawyer, Ukpon Akpan, criticised the repeated adjournment of the bail hearing, alleging that the delays appear to be politically driven.
The former governor arrived at the court premises around 9 a.m. under tight security, escorted by officials of the ICPC and operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS). Supporters gathered outside the courtroom, while security personnel controlled movement in and around the venue.
With the latest adjournment, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain will remain in detention until June, when the court is expected to rule on his bail request.
