The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Muhammad Umar before Justice Aisha Ibrahim of the Borno State High Court, Maiduguri, over an alleged ₦4.2 million property fraud.
According to the EFCC’s Maiduguri Zonal Directorate, Umar was brought before the court on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, on a two-count charge bordering on obtaining money under false pretence and criminal misappropriation.
Investigations revealed that Umar allegedly received ₦4.2 million from one Abubakar Kaumi, claiming it was payment for a plot of land located in Bolori Ward, Maiduguri—a claim the EFCC described as false and deceitful.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
Following his plea, prosecuting counsel, S.O. Saka, requested the court to fix a trial date and remand the accused in a correctional facility pending the commencement of proceedings.
Justice Aisha Ibrahim granted the request, ordered Umar’s remand in custody, and adjourned the case until November 3, 2025, for hearing.
