The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Olufemi Abaniwonda, has ordered the arrest and detention of officers attached to the ‘C’ Division in Asaba over allegations of extorting money from suspects using a POS operator within the station.
The action followed the circulation of a viral video on X, where a victim secretly recorded the incident. In the footage, officers were seen directing a point-of-sale operator to process a payment of ₦51,500 into a Moniepoint account reportedly linked to one Sunday Racheal Kewe.
Reacting to the development, the command’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe, condemned the officers’ conduct, describing it as unacceptable and unprofessional.
“This is very unfortunate. Any officer found engaging in such misconduct will face the consequences,” Edafe stated, confirming that the implicated officers have been detained and will be brought before the police commissioner for disciplinary action.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing, as the police leadership moves to reinforce accountability and restore public trust.
