Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, has been released on bail following his detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of attempting to bribe officials. The popular Nigerian cross-dresser was reportedly apprehended at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos late Thursday night, where he was set to board a KLM flight to Amsterdam with plans to continue to London.
After his arrest, Bobrisky took to social media, where he shared his distress and informed followers that he had sustained injuries during the arrest process. “Nigerians, help me, EFCC just arrested me. I’m badly injured,” he posted, drawing widespread attention to the incident.
Bobrisky was subsequently transferred to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja, where he was questioned about an alleged N15 million bribe he reportedly paid to have money laundering charges against him dismissed. The allegations first surfaced in a voice note shared by outspoken critic Martins Otse, better known as VeryDarkMan, who claimed Bobrisky had attempted to influence the EFCC’s investigation.
Late Friday night, Bobrisky was granted bail, and his release was confirmed by EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale to Sunday PUNCH on Saturday, though Oyewale declined to provide further details.
A source close to the investigation disclosed that Bobrisky denied all bribery accusations in his official statement to the EFCC, maintaining his innocence and challenging VeryDarkMan to present any evidence to support the allegations. “He denied everything about releasing money to any official as a bribe to drop the money laundering charges against him. He denied it in his statement. He said the fellow who posted the voice note should come over to justify it. He said nobody requested money from him in the EFCC and he didn’t give anyone anything,” the source revealed.
The case has since sparked a flurry of public interest, with both supporters and critics closely watching for further developments. Bobrisky’s challenge to VeryDarkMan to substantiate his claims adds another layer of intrigue, leaving many eager to see if any concrete evidence will emerge.
