The petitions were submitted by 12 political parties across 26 states following the publication of the final candidates’ list on October 10. The complaints included the omission of parties or candidates, names not appearing on submitted membership registers and alleged multiple nominations.
For the State Houses of Assembly elections, INEC said it received 61 petitions, of which 25 were upheld and 36 rejected.
The commission said some wrongly listed candidates were also removed after verification and that an updated list reflecting the affected candidates, parties and states would be published on its website.
