“We Must Speak Up or Suffer: Senator Abdul Ningi Blames Nigerians, Admits Leadership Failure Over Insecurity”
Senator Abdul Ningi, representing Bauchi Central, has stirred national debate after stating that Nigerians share responsibility for the country’s deepening poverty, corruption, and insecurity due to their failure to hold leaders accountable.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Ningi emphasized that citizens must move beyond complaints and actively demand better governance. According to him, the power to influence government decisions ultimately lies with the people, but many choose silence after voicing frustrations.
His remarks come at a time of rising violence across several states, including Borno, Plateau, Benue, and Niger, where killings and kidnappings have continued to escalate.
The senator did not spare the political class, admitting that leaders—including himself—have contributed to the crisis by prioritizing politics over the safety and welfare of citizens. He described the situation as a “complete failure of leadership” and stressed the need for honesty and accountability among those in power.
Ningi also called for a shift in strategy, urging lawmakers and security agencies to move beyond routine discussions and develop more effective solutions to address insecurity. He warned that without urgent and innovative action, the country could face even greater challenges ahead.
