Celal Nuri Demiturk, chairman of the Professional Football Disciplinary Committee (PFDK), has officially resigned following the leak of WhatsApp messages in which he reportedly made controversial remarks about Fenerbahce’s new manager, José Mourinho.
The scandal erupted after private chats between members of the PFDK surfaced, revealing discussions that Fenerbahce described as “hostile” and “biased” against the Portuguese coach. The Istanbul-based club, which recently appointed Mourinho as its head coach, called for Demiturk’s immediate resignation, citing a breach of professional impartiality.
“Mourinho has been a polarizing figure since his arrival at Fenerbahce, but remarks made by disciplinary officials must reflect neutrality,” the club stated. “These leaked messages clearly violate the principle of impartiality.”
The Turkish Football Federation (TFF), under which the PFDK operates, confirmed that Demiturk has been replaced by Basbug Pinarbasi as the new chairman of the disciplinary committee.
Mourinho, known for his bold and often provocative statements, has already sparked intense debate across Turkish football since joining Fenerbahce. The leaked conversations have only heightened the scrutiny around the disciplinary body’s conduct and its ability to remain objective in handling issues involving high-profile managers.
The resignation of Demiturk marks a significant moment for Turkish football governance, with increased calls for transparency and professionalism within its disciplinary structures.
