Nigerian Army troops have rescued two kidnapped victims and recovered ₦3.8 million ransom during a successful counter-kidnapping operation in Kogi State.
According to a statement released on the Army’s official Facebook page, the operation was executed by troops of the 12 Brigade stationed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB), Oguma. The mission was launched on November 2, 2025, following credible intelligence reports of kidnapping activities along the Itobe–Adumu–Ejule axis and information that relatives of abducted victims were on their way to deliver ransom payments.
Acting on the intelligence, troops swiftly advanced toward Achigili Forest in an effort to intercept the armed kidnappers. However, they came under attack from the criminals during the mission.
“In the ensuing firefight, our gallant soldiers engaged the bandits with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon two kidnapped victims and the ransom money,” the Army said.
The troops successfully rescued the victims and recovered ₦3,800,000 in cash — the amount intended for ransom payment. The kidnappers reportedly fled into the forest with gunshot wounds.
The Army added that the rescued victims were safely evacuated, debriefed, and placed under protection, while the recovered cash was returned to them.
Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, who signed the statement, reaffirmed the Army’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety of citizens across Kogi State and beyond.
He appealed to residents to continue cooperating with the military and other security agencies by providing accurate and timely intelligence to aid operations against criminal elements.
