DSS Investigates Atiku’s Allegation of Plot to Disrupt ADC Rally in Sokoto
The Department of State Services (DSS) has ordered an investigation into allegations by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar that the agency was recruiting protesters to disrupt a planned African Democratic Congress (ADC) rally in Sokoto State.
Atiku had alleged that the DSS was sponsoring protests to create unrest, potentially leading to the imposition of a curfew and preventing the opposition rally from holding.
In a statement on Tuesday, the DSS said its Director-General directed an investigation into the allegation in deference to Atiku, describing the claims as inconsistent with the agency’s operations.
The Service maintained that its operatives had continued providing security protection to political figures across party lines.
It cited the October 31, 2026 incident in Sokoto, where its personnel reportedly evacuated ADC governorship candidate Mannir Daniya to safety after he was attacked.
The DSS also disclosed that two of its officers were assaulted during the incident and were still receiving medical treatment.
The investigation is expected to establish the circumstances surrounding Atiku’s allegations and the agency’s alleged involvement in plans to disrupt the political rally.
