“It’s the Same God We Worship in Different Ways” — Yul Edochie Challenges Pastor Enenche Over African Traditional Worship

Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has disagreed with Pastor Paul Enenche over comments describing African traditional worship as a “dark practice.”
Edochie argued that African traditional practices should not automatically be regarded as fetish or evil, maintaining that Africans should not completely abandon their cultural roots.
According to the actor, Africans have increasingly disconnected from their traditional heritage as a result of adopting foreign religious and cultural practices. He also suggested that people may understand and worship God through different cultural expressions.
The comments have sparked mixed reactions online, with discussions centring on Christianity, African traditional religion, cultural identity, ancestral heritage and the relationship between faith and African culture.
The debate highlights a longstanding question in African society: Can cultural traditions and modern religious beliefs coexist, or should traditional practices be rejected when they conflict with a particular faith?
