Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has officially confirmed he will contest in the 2027 presidential election. Dismissing widespread speculation, Obi made it clear he has no intention of running as a vice-presidential candidate.
“This is not under consideration. No one has ever approached me about being a running mate or anything of the sort,” Obi stated in a recent interview. “People make assumptions, but no such discussion has ever taken place.”
Reaffirming his allegiance to the Labour Party, Obi described himself as a “committed and vibrant member” of the party that supported his presidential campaign in 2023.
He also highlighted his active participation in a broader opposition alliance, which includes the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The coalition aims to present a unified front against President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.
“I’m part of this coalition committed to producing a president who has both the competence and compassion to lead Nigeria forward,” Obi said.
