Speaking after the move, Gittens expressed his excitement:
“It’s a great feeling to join such a big club as Chelsea. I can’t wait to learn from everyone in the team and to push myself to the max here. It’s an amazing feeling.”
Transfer Fee and Add-ons
According to transfer insider Ben Jacobs, Chelsea paid an initial £48.5 million, with a further £3.5 million in potential performance-related add-ons, bringing the total value of the deal to £52 million.
Club World Cup Ineligibility
Gittens will not be eligible to play for Chelsea in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, as he already featured for Borussia Dortmund earlier in the competition. Chelsea are set to face Fluminense in the semi-finals on July 8.
Possible Debut and Pre-Season Fixtures
Gittens has joined Chelsea’s pre-season tour in the United States and is expected to make his debut in a friendly match against Bayer Leverkusen on August 8. The Blues will then face AC Milan on August 10 before kicking off their 2025–26 Premier League campaign against Crystal Palace on August 17.
The young winger is expected to challenge for a place in the final third under new manager Enzo Maresca and may emerge as a potential replacement for Noni Madueke, who is currently linked with a move away from the club.
