Gunmen suspected to be terrorists have carried out another deadly raid in Awon community, Kaduna State, killing two residents and abducting at least seven others, deepening fears over rising insecurity in Southern Kaduna.
The victims who lost their lives in the attack were identified as Joseph Sule, popularly known as “Big Joe,” and Awilo Madugu.
According to a local source, those kidnapped include Gift Victor, Hannatu Yusuf, Salina Sam, Silvia Sam, Dogarah Maisamari, Hassana Bulus, and Joy Samaila.
Residents say the latest incident reflects a troubling surge in attacks across communities in the region, with many now living in constant fear. A local source described the situation as a sustained campaign of violence threatening the survival of affected communities.
“People are being attacked almost daily. The killings and abductions have made life extremely difficult, and residents are no longer safe,” the source said.
A community leader, who requested anonymity, urged the government and security agencies to respond swiftly to the crisis, stressing the need for stronger protection of lives and property.
Locals also expressed frustration over what they see as delayed and insufficient security intervention, noting that repeated attacks have left many traumatised and vulnerable.
Community leaders in Awon are calling for urgent action, including the rescue of those abducted, increased deployment of security personnel, and long-term measures to curb the recurring violence across Southern Kaduna.
The attack adds to growing concerns about persistent insecurity in parts of Kaduna State, where residents continue to face threats to their safety and livelihoods.
