US Senator Ted Cruz Accuses Nigerian Officials of Enabling Terror Attacks on Christians

U.S. Senator Ted Cruz has alleged that some Nigerian government officials are complicit in the wave of violence targeting Christians across the country.
Speaking on the floor of the U.S. Senate, Cruz criticized Nigeria’s leadership for what he described as a failure to decisively address insecurity, warning that attacks on Christian communities continue to escalate despite repeated assurances from authorities.
He argued that in parts of the country where Sharia law is still in operation, the Federal Government has not taken sufficient action to curb the activities of armed groups, accusing officials of turning a blind eye while violence persists.
According to the lawmaker, Nigeria accounts for a significant share of global killings of Christians, citing figures that suggest tens of thousands have died since 2009, alongside widespread destruction of churches, schools, and religious centres.
Cruz further claimed that kidnappings and targeted attacks have become frequent, expressing concern that alleged inaction or complicity by some officials has contributed to the worsening security situation.
His remarks are likely to intensify international scrutiny on Nigeria’s handling of religious violence and broader security challenges.
