2027 Elections: David Mark Declares ADC as Platform to Rescue Nigeria from APC’s Dictatorship

David Mark, National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has declared the party as the new political vehicle to rescue Nigeria and return power to the people ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at a high-profile coalition meeting on Wednesday, Mark emphasized that the ADC has officially been adopted as the main platform for opposition forces seeking to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“The mission is clear: Rescue Nigeria. Rebuild Nigeria. Return power to the people. The time is now,” Mark asserted.

The decision to unify under the ADC marks the end of a lengthy struggle by opposition leaders to consolidate their efforts under a single political party. The coalition is reportedly backed by Atiku Abubakar’s faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and is actively courting support from the Obidient movement loyal to Labour Party’s Peter Obi.

According to Mark, the new coalition goes beyond a political contest—it aims to protect Nigeria’s democracy from further decay.

“This is not just about power. It is about preventing Nigeria from slipping into a one-party authoritarian state. Within two years, the current APC-led administration has hijacked democratic institutions and is turning Nigeria into a civilian dictatorship,” he warned.

He accused the APC government of deliberately infiltrating and destabilizing opposition parties to achieve complete state control and eliminate electoral alternatives in 2027.

Mark also criticized the APC for fostering corruption, ignoring transparency, and prioritizing politics over governance while millions of Nigerians suffer from hunger and poverty.

“We’ve never seen a government so deeply entrenched in corruption, so dismissive of accountability, and so disconnected from the daily struggles of ordinary citizens,” he lamented.

In a stinging critique of the National Assembly, Mark said the legislative arm has become a rubber stamp, silenced and stripped of its constitutional duty to check executive excesses.

“What’s even more troubling is the emasculation of the legislature. Lawmakers now act as praise singers instead of protecting Nigerians from executive overreach,” he concluded.

The ADC-led coalition is expected to mount a strong challenge in the 2027 elections, promising to restore true democratic governance and national development.
