London, United Kingdom — Nigeria’s former President Muhammadu Buhari is currently undergoing medical treatment in London, sources have confirmed.
The 82-year-old ex-president, who handed over power on May 29, 2023, reportedly travelled to the United Kingdom in April 2025 for what was initially described as a routine medical check-up. However, reports from Premium Times indicate that his health condition deteriorated shortly after his arrival, necessitating extended treatment.
There remains confusion about the timing of his illness. A source cited by Premium Times said:
“There are conflicting reports about when exactly he became unwell. Some claim he fell ill in Nigeria before being flown out, while others believe he only became sick after reaching London for regular checks.”
Garba Shehu, Buhari’s long-time media aide, confirmed the development in response to inquiries.
“It is true that the former president, Muhammadu Buhari, is unwell. He has been receiving treatment in the UK,” Shehu stated.
As of the time of this report, no official medical diagnosis has been released, and it is unclear when Buhari will return to Nigeria.
