US-Based Nigerian Onyiaeze to File N1bn Defamation Suit Against VeryDarkMan Over Viral Allegations

A Nigerian-American healthcare specialist, Kelvin Onyiaeze, has announced plans to institute a N1 billion defamation lawsuit against social commentator Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan.
Speaking during a media briefing in Abuja on Friday, Onyiaeze dismissed allegations made in a viral video by VeryDarkMan, who accused him of being a land grabber.
Reacting strongly, Onyiaeze described the claims as false, malicious, and a deliberate attempt to damage his reputation.
“The allegations contained in the viral video are a total falsehood and a coordinated attempt at character assassination. I am a law-abiding United States citizen and a professional healthcare specialist,” he stated.
He further condemned what he described as the misuse of social media to attack individuals, warning that such actions pose a threat not only to his personal safety but also to members of the Nigerian diaspora.
Onyiaeze argued that the statements made against him violate provisions of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act 2015, citing cyberstalking, bullying, and dissemination of harmful content.
“The digital space is not lawless. These actions amount to cyberstalking and reputational harm, which are punishable under Nigerian law,” he added.
He called on the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, and the Office of the Attorney General to take decisive action against VeryDarkMan.
According to Onyiaeze, his legal team, led by Abubarka Orumah, has been directed to proceed with a defamation suit valued at N1 billion, aimed at seeking redress and serving as a deterrent against online harassment and blackmail.
The case is expected to test the boundaries of free speech and accountability in Nigeria’s digital space.
