Officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Tsafe Local Government Area, Zamfara State, have apprehended a female suspect allegedly caught with live ammunition reportedly destined for bandits.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed the arrest in a post on X on Thursday. He stated that NDLEA personnel intercepted the woman on Wednesday during a routine stop-and-search along the Tsafe–Gusau highway.
According to Makama, the suspect, believed to be a native of Birnin Magaji Local Government Area, attempted to conceal the live rounds inside her luggage while travelling through the area.
Confirming the incident, Chairman of Tsafe Local Government, Malam Garba Shehu, described the arrest as a significant success in the fight against arms smuggling and the supply of logistics to criminal gangs.
“I commend the NDLEA officers for their alertness. This interception has prevented dangerous ammunition from reaching those who continue to terrorise our communities,” Shehu said.
He assured that the council will continue to support all security agencies working in the area.
The suspect has been transferred to a secure location for deeper investigation, as authorities move to uncover the source of the ammunition and its intended recipients.
