The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of four suspects linked to the gruesome killing of the Chief Imam of Tsaragi community, Alhaji Abdullahi Audu, in Edu Local Government Area.
In a statement on Thursday in Ilorin, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi, explained that the incident occurred shortly after the death of a 25-year-old resident, Ibrahim Gana, who had been hospitalised and passed away on November 4, 2025, around 9:30 p.m.
According to the statement, Ibrahim’s brothers, Mohammed Shaba and Mahmud Gana, accused the Chief Imam of causing their sibling’s death. The duo allegedly mobilised others and launched a violent attack on the cleric, using dangerous weapons that led to his death.
Police operatives immediately opened an investigation and arrested four suspects, while efforts are ongoing to track and apprehend other members of the mob.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, condemned the resort to jungle justice, warning that taking the law into one’s hands is a criminal offence. He urged residents to report grievances or suspicious activities to security agencies rather than resort to violence.
The Commissioner assured the public of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and maintaining peace across the state. Further details are expected as the investigation progresses, the spokesperson added.
