A 25-year-old man, identified as Sufiyanu Aliyu, has been taken into custody by the Sokoto State Police Command for allegedly murdering his 15-year-old wife, Suwaiba Abubakar, in Gwanyal Village, Tangaza Local Government Area.
This was disclosed in a statement released on Wednesday by the police spokesperson, DSP Ahmad Rufai.
According to the police, the tragic incident occurred on October 27 and was brought to their attention by a concerned resident.
“Following the report, officers swiftly moved to the location. The crime scene was examined, processed, and sealed off for forensic investigation,” Rufai said.
The police revealed that Aliyu was arrested immediately, and a knife suspected to have been used in the attack was recovered.
Preliminary findings indicate that the couple had a serious argument which escalated into physical violence.
“Aliyu allegedly used a knife to inflict fatal wounds on the victim. During interrogation, he confessed to the act,” Rufai confirmed.
The victim was rushed to a hospital where a medical doctor certified her dead. The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further inquiries, while the suspect has been arraigned in court to face prosecution.
