Lagos Seals Churches, Hotels, Bars Over Noise Pollution, Violation Of Environmental Laws

The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has sealed some churches, hotels and bars for violating environmental regulations

The agency said on Friday that it was done to address noise pollution and other environmental breaches. 

LASEPA conducted the enforcement operation on Friday at lfako-ljaiye, Abule-Egba Alagbado, Command, Abesan Estate, and Dopemu areas of the state.

“Among the affected establishments are the Catholic Church, Seventh Heaven Bar & Lounge, 1602 Hotel, Lourita Hotel & Suites, Wonderful Bible Prayer Ministries, God’s Porch Ministries, White Pavilion Hotel, Quest Hotel & Suites, Honey Comb Confectioners Ltd, and Excel Hotel & Suite,” it said in a statement. 

The establishments have been temporarily closed to compel compliance with environmental regulations, it added.

LASEPA emphasised the importance of businesses adhering to environmental standards.

The environmental protection agency said the nine facilities were closed down to safeguard the environment from pollution and other violations in the state.

The agency wrote: “The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), in line with its mandate to safeguard the environment from pollution and other violations took decisive action by sealing several establishments, including hotels, lounge, mall, company.

“These establishments are Fabtol Hotel & Suites, Lustet Hotel, Emery Hotel, CF Hotel & Suites, Trending Place Hotel, Tomakan Nigeria Limited, Witsspring Suites, Sikkyrolex Hotel, Million Dollar lmperial Hotel, Kidzmall and Lounge 14A, are all located in various parts of lsolo, and Gbagada in Lagos State

These measures were put in place to address the identified instances of Noise Pollution and Other Environmental Violations,” it added.

The agency also sealed churches, event centres and other establishments in the Lagos Island, Ojudu, Ogba, Magodo, and Ikosi areas of the state over alleged noise pollution in October 2023.

Some of the affected establishments include New Jerusalem Ark of God International Church and Yplus Event Centre.

In December 2023, the agency also sealed a parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Ifelodun Mosque and several other worship centres in the state over noise pollution.

Also in December, the agency sealed popular nightclub, Quilox, over environmental and safety infractions.

This was the second time the club was sealed in one year.

Quilox is owned by a former member of the House of Representatives and chief executive officer of Aquila Group of Companies, Shina Abiola Peller.
