Lagos Kicks Off Second Round of Oworonshoki Enumeration to Compensate Affected Residents

The Lagos State Government has launched the second phase of enumeration for residents impacted by the Oworonshoki Regeneration Project, as part of its ongoing compensation plan for property owners whose structures were demolished during the urban renewal programme.

The latest exercise began on Monday, November 3, 2025, at the Oloworo Palace in Oworonshoki, Kosofe Local Government Area, and is being coordinated by the Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency (LASURA).

Supervising the process was LASURA’s General Manager, Town Planner (TPL) Oladimeji Animashaun, alongside directors, technical officers, and representatives of relevant state ministries and agencies.

The event drew community leaders, traditional chiefs, members of Community Development Associations (CDAs) and Committees (CDCs), civil society organizations, security operatives, and a large turnout of residents eager to be documented.

According to TPL Animashaun, the second round of enumeration became necessary to capture those who were unable to participate in the first exercise, ensuring that no eligible property owner is left uncompensated, in line with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s directive.

“Last week, we began paying compensation to those affected by the Oworonshoki Urban Regeneration Project. However, some residents missed the initial enumeration and appealed for another opportunity. This second phase is to make sure everyone is included,” Animashaun explained.

He added that public confidence in the process has grown significantly after the successful payment of the first batch of compensation, which encouraged more residents to come forward for verification.

“At first, many people were skeptical about the government’s promise, but after seeing their neighbours receive payment, that doubt turned to trust. Today’s large turnout shows renewed belief in government sincerity,” he said.

Animashaun assured that the verification and compensation process will be completed swiftly, with payments following within days after enumeration concludes.

He urged residents to maintain order and cooperate fully with government officials to ensure a transparent and efficient process, emphasizing that the Sanwo-Olu administration remains dedicated to fairness, accountability, and the welfare of Lagosians affected by development projects.
