Anambra Governorship Election: Police Deploy Drones, Helicopters to Boost Security

The Anambra State Police Command has announced the deployment of helicopters, drones, and special tactical teams across the state as part of efforts to strengthen security ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.
Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, disclosed this on Sunday while addressing journalists in Awka, confirming that the newly arrived Advance Tactical Teams from Force Headquarters have joined local formations to reinforce ongoing security operations.
According to Orutugu, the deployment — approved by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun — is part of the Force’s comprehensive operational strategy aimed at ensuring a peaceful, transparent, and violence-free election.
He expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General for his continued support in enhancing safety across Anambra, emphasizing that the use of advanced surveillance technology would significantly improve monitoring and response capacity.
“The aerial surveillance will complement existing ground patrols by tactical units, intelligence operatives, and special police squads deployed across all 21 local government areas,” Orutugu stated.
He explained that the integration of helicopters and drones would provide real-time intelligence on key locations, border areas, and potential flashpoints, while ground units maintain 24-hour patrols and checkpoints to deter criminal activities.
The police boss assured residents of Anambra of the Command’s readiness to safeguard lives, property, and the integrity of the electoral process.
