The Abia State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to fairness and transparency in land matters, assuring residents that no community land will be taken without proper and adequate compensation.

Speaking during a media briefing on Monday after the State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Alex Otti, the Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, called for cooperation from communities in government’s land acquisition efforts.

Kanu emphasized that despite the 1978 Land Use Act, which vests ownership of large tracts of land in the government, the present administration remains committed to compensating affected communities generously.

“Under Governor Alex Otti’s leadership, no Abian will be shortchanged. Any land acquired by the government will be duly compensated, and such lands will only be used for their intended purposes,” the commissioner stated.

He further assured that the Otti-led administration would not divert lands acquired for specific projects to other uses, stressing that transparency remains a core principle of the government’s land policy.

In a related development, Kanu announced that the State Executive Council has approved the implementation of the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) for health workers in local government areas.

He described the move as part of ongoing civil service reforms aimed at improving the welfare and motivation of public sector employees.

“This makes Abia one of the few states in Nigeria implementing the federal government’s CONHESS for its local health workforce,” Kanu said.

He also revealed that the state’s health recruitment portal has been reopened, with new vacancies available for ophthalmologists, medical officers, dental officers, and consultants (both full-time and part-time), as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery across Abia State.
