The University of Jos (UNIJOS) has suspended examinations slated for Monday and Tuesday amid rising tension following a deadly assault in Anguwan Rukuba, Jos North of Plateau State.

The university management also advised students and staff to remain indoors and stay alert as security concerns continue to escalate in the area.

In a statement released on Sunday, the institution’s Deputy Registrar for Information and Public Relations, Emmanuel Madugu, explained that the decision was taken due to the anxiety triggered by the recent attack in a community housing many members of the university.

According to the statement, the Vice-Chancellor approved the postponement as a precautionary measure to safeguard lives.

“Following the tragic attack by unidentified gunmen in Anguwan Rukuba—a community where many of our staff and students reside—and the tension it has caused, the Vice-Chancellor has directed that all examinations scheduled for Monday, March 30, and Tuesday, March 31, 2026, be postponed and rescheduled,” the statement noted.

The university further urged members of its community to be cautious in their movements both on and off campus, emphasizing the need for heightened vigilance.

Staff and students were specifically warned to avoid early morning outings and to promptly report any suspicious activities to the university’s security unit.

Management added that it is collaborating with relevant security agencies while closely monitoring developments, assuring that further updates will be communicated as the situation evolves.
