Health Professionals Rally in Abuja, Oppose Controversial Regulatory Bill

Story: Written by Joseph March 26,2026
Healthcare workers under the umbrella of the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) and the Assembly of Healthcare Professional Associations have staged a protest at Unity Fountain in Abuja.

The protest is directed against the proposed Health Sector Regulatory Bill currently before the National Assembly.

According to the demonstrators, the bill, if passed into law, would place all healthcare professions under the authority of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.

They argued that various health professions already have established regulatory bodies and warned that the proposed legislation could undermine their independence, effectively reducing them to subordinate roles under medical doctors.

The protesters also revealed plans to march to the National Assembly to formally present their grievances to lawmakers and demand a reconsideration of the bill.

Further updates are expected as the situation unfolds.
