President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the official deployment of 65 ambassadors-designate to Nigeria’s diplomatic missions around the world, including key postings to the United Nations.

The envoys consist of 31 career diplomats and 34 non-career appointees whose nominations were earlier confirmed by the Nigerian Senate in December 2025.

In a statement released on Friday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency said the ambassadors have now been assigned to various countries and international organisations.

Among the political appointees, former presidential aide Reno Omokri has been posted to Mexico, while former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode will represent Nigeria in Germany.

Former Minister of Health Isaac Adewole has been assigned to Canada, while former Interior Minister Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau will serve in China.

Other notable postings include Senator Ita Enang to South Africa, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Olufemi Pedro to Australia, and Lateef Kayode Are to the United States.

The President also approved several career diplomats for strategic diplomatic missions. These include Ambassador Abdussalam Habu Zayyad to Senegal, Ambassador Haidara Mohammed Idris to The Hague in the Netherlands, Ambassador Ayeni Adebayo Emmanuel to Belgium, and Ambassador Ibrahim Danlami to Kenya.

According to the Presidency, some host nations have already issued diplomatic clearance, known as agrément, for the Nigerian envoys.

The United Kingdom has approved Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu as Nigeria’s High Commissioner, while France granted agrément to Ambassador Ayo Oke.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nigeria has also informed other host countries about the appointments and requested their diplomatic clearance in line with international practice.

President Tinubu has further directed the Foreign Affairs Ministry to immediately commence orientation and induction programmes for the ambassadors and high commissioners ahead of their official postings.
