Vice President Kashim Shettima has paid a condolence visit to Aisha Buhari, the widow of late former President Muhammadu Buhari, in London, following the ex-leader’s passing on Sunday.

The Vice President, who is currently leading a high-level Nigerian government delegation to the United Kingdom, also met with the children of the late president. The visit comes as part of official arrangements to repatriate Buhari’s remains to Nigeria.

Photographs of the somber meeting between Shettima and the Buhari family are currently circulating across social media, showing the Vice President in heartfelt discussions with the grieving family in their London residence.

Late President Buhari reportedly died while undergoing treatment for an undisclosed illness in the UK. His death marks the end of a political legacy that saw him serve both as a former military ruler and as a two-term democratically elected president.

During his presidency, Buhari spent a total of 225 days abroad for medical reasons. His longest medical absence lasted 104 days in 2017, also in London.

Vice President Shettima and other senior officials are expected to arrive in Nigeria on Tuesday with Buhari’s remains. The burial ceremony has been scheduled to take place the same day in Daura, the late president’s hometown in Katsina State.
