Rivers crisis: Why I accepted Tinubu-led peace accord – Fubara

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, says his desire to lead a thriving and peace state informed his decision to accept the peace accord brokered by president Bola Tinubu.

Governor Fubara disclose this while addressing Rivers people at the maiden state banquet held by his administration at Government House Port Harcourt Monday night to celebrate the new year.

Recall that Fubara and minister of minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, were at daggers drawn for weeks on end last year over the political and economic control of the state.

It took the intervention of Tinubu to douse the tension in the state and calm frayed nerves.

Speaking on Monday, Fubara implored Rivers people to embrace the ongoing peace process at the instance Tinibu.

He stating that his administration would not allow itself to be dragged into any dirty political war that would hamper the growth and development in the state.

“Every decision that we’ve taken is not born out of fear but because we have the interest of our people and we have respect for elders.

“I’m appealing to everyone of us to embrace the peace. We need this peace because our intention for the state is not for our personal interest but that of the development of the state

The governor disclosed that his administration was determined to live a legacy of unity and development in Rivers State, and not a legacy of political apprehension
