Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has declared that divine backing and the will of the people will guarantee his re-election in the 2026 governorship poll.
The governor made the assertion on Monday during a New Year interfaith prayer programme held at the State Secretariat, which drew labour leaders, religious clerics and senior public servants.
Adeleke said his administration has weathered numerous challenges over the past three years and remains confident of overcoming obstacles ahead of the next election.
According to him, the progress recorded since he assumed office has been anchored on faith, perseverance and collective resolve.
“God has been our shield and defender from day one. He has fought our battles and stood by us whenever opposition arose,” the governor said.
He described his leadership journey as evidence of divine intervention, stressing that his government had triumphed over difficulties many believed were impossible to overcome.
“We are proof that God governs the affairs of men. The same God who helped us overcome yesterday’s challenges will see us through tomorrow. We shall continue to prevail,” Adeleke added.
The governor also highlighted what he described as people-focused governance, noting that his administration has delivered measurable results across critical sectors.
He listed welfare support for elderly citizens, assistance to vulnerable groups, road and bridge rehabilitation, empowerment of artisans, as well as reforms in education and healthcare as key achievements.
Adeleke further said his government is making steady progress in clearing inherited salary and pension arrears, despite doubts expressed by critics.
“Even under tough conditions, we are tackling half-salary issues and pension backlogs that some said could never be resolved. We have ensured that Osun resources serve Osun people and created a friendlier climate for investment,” he stated.
Earlier, the Osun State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Christopher Arapasopo, reaffirmed organised labour’s support for Adeleke, pledging that workers would overwhelmingly back him in the August 8, 2026 governorship election.
Religious leaders at the event also offered prayers and messages of goodwill. The Chief Imam of Osogbo, Sheikh Musa Animasaun, and the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Osun State, Dr John Adeleke, praised the governor’s open display of faith and prayed for divine wisdom to guide his leadership and re-election bid.
