Nigeria’s crude oil production is expected to surge by up to 800,000 barrels per day (bpd) as six major oil projects move toward completion, according to industry sources.

The projects, driven by both local and international oil companies, are part of the government’s broader strategy to revitalise the energy sector, increase foreign exchange earnings, and strengthen the country’s position in the global oil market.

Energy analysts say the developments will help Nigeria close the gap between its current production levels and the quota allocated by the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). The increased output could also ease foreign exchange pressure, boost government revenues, and attract fresh investments into the sector.

The projects, located in key oil-producing regions, are expected to be operational between late 2025 and 2026, with a combined potential to transform Nigeria’s oil output capacity and improve energy security.

Industry stakeholders have called on the government to address persistent challenges, including pipeline vandalism, crude theft, and inadequate infrastructure, to ensure the full benefits of the projects are realised.
