‘My Salary Is N503,000, Permanent Secretary Earns N900,000’ – Gov Oborevwori
Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has disclosed that he earns a monthly salary of N503,000, revealing that some senior civil servants in the state earn significantly more than him.
Oborevwori made the disclosure in a video recorded during a recent event in Asaba, the Delta State capital, which has since gone viral.
According to the governor, a Permanent Secretary in the Delta State civil service currently earns N900,000 monthly, while the Head of Service receives N1 million.
The governor noted that the salary of a Permanent Secretary is therefore almost twice his own monthly pay.
“You will also recall that we were one of the first states that implemented the minimum wage.
“Today, a Permanent Secretary’s salary is more than the governor’s. Your salary is N900,000; my salary is N503,000. Head of Service is N1 million,” Oborevwori said.
The governor’s comments have generated reactions, particularly over the disparity between the salaries of political office holders and senior career civil servants in the state.
Delta State is one of Nigeria’s oil-producing states and receives revenue from the Federation Account, including funds allocated under the 13 per cent derivation principle.
In the first seven months of 2026, the Federal Government, states and local governments reportedly shared about N16 trillion from the Federation Account.
