Kogi University Lecturer Dies During Alleged Intimacy With 200-Level Student in Hotel

A senior lecturer at Kogi State University, Anyigba, Dr. Olabode Abimbola Ibikunle, has reportedly died during an alleged sexual encounter with a 22-year-old 200-level student of the institution. The incident occurred on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at a private hotel in Anyigba.
According to reports, the hotel’s manager, Moses Friday, alerted the authorities after the student, identified as Gloria Samuel, rushed to the reception to report that the lecturer had collapsed in the room shortly after their intimate session. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
The Kogi State Police Command, through its Public Relations Officer, SP William Ovye Aya, confirmed the incident and described it as unfortunate. He revealed that an autopsy has already been carried out to determine the exact cause of death, as investigations are currently ongoing.
The deceased, Dr. Ibikunle, was a respected lecturer in the Department of Social Studies Education. He was reportedly married with children and had checked into the hotel earlier that day with the student.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that the lecturer may have consumed multiple energy drinks before the encounter, which could have contributed to his sudden collapse and eventual death.
Following the development, the student was arrested and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further interrogation as part of the ongoing investigation.
