France are the first team into the last 16, thanks to Mbappe’s brilliance
November 26,2022
The reigning World Cup champions will be in the knockouts of the 2022 tournament, with France securing their ticket to the next round via a 2-1 victory over Denmark.
Kylian Mbappe was the hero for Les Bleus, scoring either side of an Andreas Christensen goal in the second half
This was yet another game that produced a goalless first half, as France couldn’t take the chances they created for Mbappe, Olivier Giroud, Antoine Griezmann or Adrian Rabiot.
But, they did come out strong for the second half too and, after Griezmann wasted a good opportunity from inside the area, Mbappe then put his team ahead on the hour mark after combining well with Theo Hernandez down the left, playing a one-two with the left back before finishing.
Although Andreas Christensen equalised for Denmark soon after with a header at a corner, France went back on the attack.
They were able to retake the lead, with Mbappe timing his run perfectly to meet a perfect Griezmann cross into the area.
He even had a couple of counter-attacking chances to complete a hat-trick, but will be delighted with this performance and victory
France are into the last 16
The result puts France into the last 16, something no other national team has so far been able to mathematically secure.
Les Bleus haven’t yet won their group, though, so will look to achieve that when they face Tunisia in their last group game on Wednesday
