Power Minister Says Government Focused on Better Electricity Supply Without Additional Burden on Consumers
The Federal Government has dismissed reports that it plans to withdraw electricity subsidies or increase electricity tariffs from next year.
The Minister of Power, Engr. Joseph Tegbe, made the clarification on Monday during a press briefing in Abuja to mark his first 100 days in office.
Tegbe said the government had no plan to introduce an electricity tariff increase that would place additional financial pressure on Nigerians.
According to the minister, the government’s priority is to improve electricity supply and ensure that consumers receive better service without imposing further financial burdens on households and businesses.
He said the Federal Government would continue working to strengthen power generation, transmission and distribution across the country.
Tegbe added that efforts were focused on providing Nigerians with more reliable and efficient electricity while addressing challenges across the power value chain.
The minister’s comments come amid concerns over the cost of electricity and reports suggesting that the government could review its subsidy policy and electricity tariffs in the coming year.
