Anthony Joshua may learn some valuable advice from heavyweight world title rematch expert Evander Holyfield.
In the course of his illustrious career, the former undisputed heavyweight and cruiserweight champion has engaged in rematches with Mike Tyson, Lennox Lewis, Riddick Bowe, and John Ruiz
Joshua is now preparing for his second attempt to defeat Oleksandr Usyk in Saudi Arabia.
Usyk successfully outboxed Joshua over the course of 12 rounds in their first encounter, winning him the unified WBA, WBO, and IBF heavyweight world belts.
Following the fight, Joshua received harsh criticism for his strategy of challenging one of the world’s most technically proficient fighters to a game of boxing chess
Joshua has significantly altered his training regimen, tactics, and sparring partners in preparation for this fight, but Holyfield feels that ‘AJ’ should only be focusing on himself.
“Don’t nobody know what you did wrong but yourself,” Holyfield said in a recent interview with talkSPORT. “You’re in there. So, that’s the big difference if you can realize what you did wrong and not so much what the other guy did.”
With that said, Holyfield also thinks that now that fight week has here, it’s time for Joshua to put that loss behind him and seize the chance he will have on Saturday night.
Holyfield believes Joshua can win this fight
“He’s got another chance,” Holyfield added. “So he has to make the best of it and leave the past in the past, don’t bring it with you
Finally, Holyfield acknowledged that he thinks Joshua has the capacity to make up for the mistakes made in the first bout and triumph, despite his refusal to make a prediction
Of course he can, everybody can,” Holyfield said. “It’s him in there and he has to motivate himself and do what it takes
