July 21, 2025 – Popular Nigerian actress Dayo Amusa has publicly debunked viral claims suggesting she is HIV positive, describing the allegations as false, defamatory, and based on a misinterpreted social media post from 2019.

The false report stemmed from a viral video posted by content creator Olaoluwa Segun, who listed Amusa among five Nigerian actors allegedly living with HIV. The video has since garnered widespread attention and triggered backlash on social media.

Reacting via a video on her official Instagram page, Dayo Amusa strongly refuted the claim, clarifying that her 2019 post was meant to raise awareness about HIV testing and education, not to disclose any personal diagnosis.

“I want to address a video that has been trending across social media in the last 24 hours. The video references a post I made in 2019 about my HIV status, which was negative,” Amusa stated.

She emphasized that the original post was purely for public health education, encouraging people to get tested and seek medical support if they test positive.

“It’s shocking that someone took that educational post and twisted it to falsely claim I am HIV positive, alongside other names, without any form of investigation,” she said. “I won’t let this slide. I will make you a scapegoat.”

The Nollywood star also warned that she is considering legal action against the content creator for defamation and misinformation. She reiterated that spreading unverified health-related claims is damaging, both personally and socially, and must not be tolerated.

Dayo Amusa’s statement has drawn support from fans and colleagues across the entertainment industry, who condemned the irresponsible use of social media to spread false health claims.

The actress reaffirmed her commitment to using her platform to promote public health awareness and urged the public to be more discerning about the content they consume and share online.
