Chelsea Sign Joao Pedro from Brighton in £60m Deal, Contract Runs Until 2033

Chelsea Football Club have officially confirmed the high-profile signing of Brazilian forward Joao Pedro from Brighton & Hove Albion in a deal worth up to £60 million.

Despite their ongoing participation in the FIFA Club World Cup, Chelsea’s recruitment team has remained active behind the scenes, securing key reinforcements to bolster the squad ahead of the new season.

Pedro, 23, has signed a long-term contract that ties him to Stamford Bridge until 2033 — a year longer than initially anticipated. While the official fee was not disclosed by the club, reports indicate that Chelsea paid a base fee of £55 million with an additional £5 million in performance-related add-ons.

The Brazil international is believed to have already joined Enzo Maresca’s squad in the United States, where Chelsea are currently competing in the Club World Cup.

Speaking to Chelsea’s official website, Pedro expressed his excitement about the move:
“Everyone knows Chelsea is a massive club with a rich history. They’ve had great players in the past and still do today. I’m proud to join, and I know that being a Chelsea player means one thing — to win.”

Chelsea have not yet confirmed Pedro’s squad number, though options such as 13, 16, 20, and 21 are under consideration, pending any potential player exits.

Manager Enzo Maresca reportedly aims to have eight or nine attacking players within a compact 22- to 23-man squad for the upcoming campaign. Pedro’s versatility — being able to play as a winger, striker, or in a central attacking midfield role — makes him an ideal addition to Chelsea’s dynamic front line.

During his time at Brighton, Pedro made a strong impact with 30 goals and 10 assists in 70 appearances. In the Premier League overall, he has registered 22 goals and 10 assists from 89 matches.

If he passes a fitness assessment in the next 48 hours, Joao Pedro is expected to be included in Chelsea’s matchday squad for their Club World Cup quarter-final clash against Palmeiras on Friday night.
