Benin-Asaba Expressway: BAECC Seeks Patience, Promises Faster Construction

The Benin-Asaba Expressway Concession Company Limited (BAECC) has appealed to motorists and host communities for patience, assuring that construction on the 125-kilometre highway will accelerate as the rainy season ends.
BAECC Chief Executive Officer, Samuel Daramola, said the company understands the difficulties motorists are facing while the busy highway remains open to traffic during reconstruction.
He explained that substantial work has already been carried out across various sections, including earthworks, drainage and culvert construction, pavement preparation, asphalt works and carriageway expansion.
Daramola said persistent rainfall has slowed some permanent pavement operations but has not stopped construction, as teams continue with other engineering works and palliative interventions on difficult sections.
According to him, the project is being executed under a 36-month construction programme, with billions of naira committed to equipment, materials, construction plants and logistics.
BAECC said it is preparing for a significant acceleration of permanent works from October, including drainage completion, pavement reconstruction, asphalt installation and culvert construction across multiple sections.
“We are not asking anyone to ignore the present difficulties. We recognise them and are addressing them through palliative interventions while building the permanent solution,” Daramola said.
He urged motorists and communities to judge the project by the quality, durability and safety of the highway upon completion.
BAECC assured Nigerians that the road currently experienced during construction will not represent the final highway, appealing for continued patience and cooperation as work progresses.
