Atiku Had No Option but to Quit PDP — Wike Says He Stopped Him from Destroying the Party

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar had no choice but to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), claiming he prevented him from wrecking the party.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, Wike accused Atiku of being an inconsistent and self-serving politician who has never shown true loyalty to the PDP.
“Atiku was never a committed member of the PDP. He had no choice but to leave because he wanted to use the party for his personal gain. But knowing that I’m there, he couldn’t have his way,” Wike said.
The former Rivers State governor accused Atiku and his allies of destabilizing the PDP through repeated defections and political opportunism.
“These are the same people who have destroyed the party. How many times has Atiku left and returned to the PDP?” he questioned.
Wike also took a swipe at Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State, noting that he felt relieved after Diri reportedly declared his exit from the PDP.
“Diri has said he’s leaving the PDP, and I’m one of the happiest people today. He and Makinde once said they wouldn’t allow anyone to destroy the PDP and fall into the gutter. Now, who has fallen into the gutter?” Wike added mockingly.
The FCT Minister reiterated his stance that the PDP must be protected from internal saboteurs and that he will continue to defend the integrity of the party against those seeking to use it for personal ambition.
