The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has leveled serious allegations against Dr. Deji Adeleke, businessman, philanthropist, and brother of Governor Ademola Adeleke. In a statement signed by Mogaji Kola Olabisi, APC Director of Media & Information, and obtained by SpringNewsNG, the party accused Dr. Adeleke of engaging in contract racketeering and mismanagement of public funds.
According to the APC, Dr. Adeleke allegedly secured a controversial borehole project in selected wards across the state at an exorbitant cost of N14 million per unit, many of which were reportedly left uncompleted. The opposition party compared this with similar borehole projects executed during the administration of former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, stating that such projects, including full ancillary facilities, were built for less than N2 million each.
The party further alleged that Dr. Adeleke wields significant influence over the state government, effectively operating as the “unofficial Governor-General” of Osun State. They also accused Mrs. Dupe Adeleke-Sanni, the governor’s elder sister, of taking charge of administrative affairs while Governor Ademola Adeleke has been reduced to a mere figurehead, whom they mockingly referred to as the “Governor-in-Charge of Entertainment.”
“The cases of Governor Adeleke’s family members and officials using their closeness to government and privileged positions to corner undeserved contracts against extant laws abound,” the statement read in part.
“Dr. Deji Adeleke (the governor’s brother and father of the popular singer, Davido) has been entangled in this web of contract racketeering as his name has surfaced severally in the controversial borehole projects allegedly installed in selected wards in the state.
“He was alleged to have secured a borehole project for N14 million, many of which ended up not being built. Similar borehole projects, but with all the ancillary facilities, were built in the health centers rehabilitated under our administration for less than N2 million each.
“It is painful that imaginary and audio borehole projects were allegedly superintended by Dr. Deji Adeleke for an insanely high N14 million while similar projects, which are still functioning today, were built for less than N2 million each during the administration of Oyetola.”
The APC also expressed concerns about what it described as the concentration of power within the Adeleke family, alleging that governance in Osun State has become a family affair, with crucial decisions being influenced behind the scenes.
“It is no gainsaying that Dr. Deji Adeleke has been operating behind the scenes as the unofficial Governor-General of the state; Mrs. Dupe Adeleke-Sanni, the governor’s elder sister, has secured the role of the Governor-in-Charge of Administration for herself, while the Governor who was elected has been titular and ridiculously playing the role of a Governor-in-Charge of Entertainment to the consternation of the right-thinking members of the society. The situation is that bad in our state.”
The APC called on relevant anti-corruption agencies to launch an immediate investigation into the alleged contract racketeering and mismanagement of public funds under Governor Adeleke’s administration.
As of the time of reporting, neither Dr. Deji Adeleke nor Governor Ademola Adeleke has responded to the allegations.
