Abia Government Warns Politicians Buying Voters’ PVC Details for N10,000 to Manipulate 2027 Elections

The Abia State Government has issued a strong warning over an alleged plot by some political actors to buy Permanent Voter Card (PVC) details from unsuspecting rural residents for N10,000 under false pretenses.
In a special announcement released Monday night, Ferdinand Ekeoma, the Special Adviser to Governor Alex Otti, revealed that certain politicians have deployed agents to local communities across the state to collect sensitive voter information. The agents reportedly deceive villagers by claiming the data is needed to create an empowerment e-wallet, which does not exist.
According to the government, the real motive behind the scheme is to compromise the integrity of the PVCs and disenfranchise voters during the 2027 general elections.
“This criminal activity is being disguised as a form of economic support. However, its true intention is to render these PVCs unusable and strip citizens of their voting rights,” Ekeoma stated.
Although the announcement did not name the politicians involved, it emphasized that the Abia State Government has consistently rolled out genuine empowerment programmes for youths and the elderly without any political bias or illegal demands.
Governor Otti’s administration condemned the manipulation as a serious breach of electoral integrity and a calculated attempt to subvert democracy.
“The government considers this criminal scheme highly irresponsible. Anyone caught—regardless of status—either directly or through an agent, will face severe legal consequences,” the statement warned.
The government also urged all Abia residents, especially those in rural areas, to be vigilant and refuse to share their PVC or personal details with anyone claiming to offer financial aid in return.
Citizens were advised to report any such suspicious activity to security agencies or local authorities immediately to prevent voter suppression and electoral fraud ahead of the 2027 elections.
