Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has ruled out claims that he is planning to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general election, clarifying that he has been involved with the party since the coalition’s formation.
Obi made the clarification on Sunday night during an interactive session on X Space, where he addressed growing speculation about his political alignment.
According to him, there is no need to formally join the ADC because he has always been part of the coalition from its earliest stage. He stressed that he is not replacing anyone within the party and that no individual is stepping aside for him.
The former Anambra State governor also emphasized his continued respect for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, describing him as a leader he holds in high regard.
“I am not defecting to ADC,” Obi said. “I cannot join what I already belong to. I have been part of the coalition from the beginning.”
He added that the agreement within the coalition is based on unity and collective effort, not individual ambition, noting that all parties involved have agreed to work together toward shared goals.
